I just heard the 1st negative report about visa problems today :(

a friend of mine, his American friend arrived on a valid tourist visa, coming from USA
they put him in jail for the day and then finally deported him.

.... saying he'd been living in Thailand for 5 years on tourist visa, and that's against the law

but supposedly he had an old passport that revealed all those previous tourist visa's etc.

Should having a new passport solve this?

Also I heard edu visa's require criminal background checks (that's fine and good I think) and proof of incomes, anyone heard or know this is true?

OMG that sounds freakin' terrible.

Was he like working illegally here or something? Or just straight up living here too long on tourist visa, like, spending more days in Thailand than outside of Thailand? Are they really keeping track of these kinds of things? omfg!

My gfriend arrived there with a tourist visa, she said the immigration officer warned her that she can't do back to back tourist visa's and gave her a special stamp and made her sign it (as a warning).
