I was in Surin for the weekend and stayed Thongtarin, for 1100 baht per night.... the 2nd night i decided to change and tried The Grace hotel Surin. Pretty good location with a restaurant connected called Chhhhngai restaurant. New hotel, great price, great service and good size rooms.

That's a long way from Bangkok. What's out there in Surin to see?

Well it's a total chill atmosphere out there. Some really nice open air chill spots with food, beer towers, live music. Hotels there cost usually 400-1500 (1500 absolute max). There is a brand new SUPER fancy looking hotel they're building right now, maybe complete within a year or so. I seen that today before coming back to Bangkok. We called it "the Elephant hotel" because they have many big cool looking elephant statues, some elephant Buddha (I read it's called Ganesh or Ganesha). But this new hotel will probably become the most expensive, and best hotel in Surin when it opens.

But other than that, they have a couple of nightclubs, a Tawandaeng (a thai style dance joint, live music, sometimes some comedy shows, food, beer towers, etc etc)

Oh, and Surin is very cheap with everything that i've seen!

In November they have this Elephant festival called "The Surin Elephant Round-up" usually in November, i'll probably go again to that. Went before, pretty cool, tons of elephants walking in parade, you buy big corn and other veggies and give to them.

Also surrounding areas are some waterfalls, huge temples and other things worth touristing into :)
