Hello BKK Forum i am looking to have a home built, i found Omhome http://www.omhome.co.th/index.php it looks like they build homes but we must buy the lots first.

Anyone have experience with them, or gone with any other home building companies here in Thailand?

I'm not and been advised to put the land in wife name. Seems easier that way, but also risky

From what I've read, you cannot buy land if you're not a citizen.

If you're married, and you want to live there, I don't see why you wouldn't put it in your wife's name.

If you're not sure the marriage is going to last, just go and buy a condo in a highrise. That you can own free and clear and if your marriage doesn't work out, you can kick her out :D :D :D :D :D

Can you buy a house in Thailand?

Foreigners are not allowed to own land in Thailand by law. If interested in buying, a foreign investor has two options: either a 30-year leasehold or purchasing the property through a limited company. Apartments can be purchased by foreigners as long as at least 51% of the building is owned by Thais.

Does it really matter? I wouldn't care if I owned land or not, As long as I had a really nice place to live.

How much is a plot of land? $3,000 and maybe another $7,000-$10,000 for a home. $13k ain't shit when you've got a couple hundred thousand dollars in the bank.

There you go. That's what I'm talking about. Like I said, if you can't afford a $13k-$15k loss, then you should not be trying to retire in a foreign country.

 :D :P ;) :)
